Texture & layering

On the left of the composition, a narrow, darker textile band runs the full height of the work. The visible weave and irregular edges contrast with the softer planes beside it. A fine dark line accentuates the vertical movement.

On the right, two larger planes alternate: a light, cream-coloured plane above and a greyer natural plane below. Their edges do not fit perfectly together, creating small shadows that keep the different layers visible.

From a distance, the calm arrangement of planes and soft colour differences are most noticeable. Up close, you discover the fibres, folds and loose edges. It is precisely these irregularities that give Imperfectus XXII its character without making the composition feel restless.

Calmness & texture
