The basket is not only practical, but also impresses with its special design: Banana fibres are held together by a net-like pattern of white cotton cords, creating a beautiful light-dark contrast. The elegant funnel-shaped lid offers even more space compared to baskets with a flat lid. The basis for the basket is a stable metal frame, which means that it always retains its shape.

Our baskets are made from plant fibres, so they smell and feel wonderfully of nature.
Banana fibres are the fibres of the layered trunks of banana trees used in agriculture. The intense brown colour is created naturally when the fibres are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these crops a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we attach importance to fair wages and good working conditions. Only mature and experienced craftsmen work in the companies where we buy our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
