Main material: banana fibers

Our baskets are made from plant fibres, so they smell and feel wonderfully of nature.

Banana fibres are the fibres of the layered trunks of banana trees used in agriculture. The intense brown colour is created naturally when the fibres are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these crops a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we attach importance to fair wages and good working conditions. Only experienced and mature craftsmen work in the companies where we buy our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, hardly any greenhouse gas emissions are produced during the production process. We ensure all this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
